Bitter and somewhat aromatic. Aspen is in the same genus as Cottonwood and Balsam Poplar and in the same family as Willow (Salicaceae), sharing some similar properties.
We trimmed and thinned the siberian elms from a local garden club member's land. Siberian elm bark is comparable to slippery elm bark, and can be used as a good analogue to avoid slippery elm bark harvest. Siberian elms here were planted in town and are considered invasive by some, and a vigorous grower by others, that needs trimming and thinning to allow space for other plants.
